Nerella incident: A weapon against TRS Govt in the hands of opposition

Hyderabad, August 6: Nerella Dalit bashing issue has become a bone of contention between State government and opposition parties in Telangana. The event received severe flak from all the opposition parties besides drawing the attention of national media.

Opposition leaders are taking this as a chance to corner the TRS government and demanding for justice to the Dalit families smartly cashing in on the situation. This incident has proved to be a suitable and apt weapon in the hands of literally dysfunctional Telugu Desam party and not so active left parties.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s stance on the entire episode was the actual reason for escalating the issue and encouraging opposition to up the ante. KCR disagreed with the opposition and tried to downplay the event.

Few Dalits were brutally thrashed by police officials in the Nerella town of Siricilla when they agitated against atrocity. Congress leaders were lined up to meet the families of victims and tried to raise it as national issue.

Senior Congress leader and former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar was also roped in by the state Congress leaders where she condemned the incident and took severe objection over the state government’s stance.

Opposition leaders have been using this incident to prove KCR an anti-Dalit figure and latter is providing them the space to protest and build up an opinion. Following unified attack by the opposition parties, KCR also jumped into the controversy and came down heavily on Congress and left parties.

This further damaged his figure and social activists across the state expressed their unhappiness for the statements. TRS party leaders also organized the counter rallies and dharna in Nerella and Siricilla.
