CPM, Dalits warn of agitation in AP

Amaravathi, August 6: Left parties along with Dalits in Andhra Pradesh are bracing up for a full fledge agitation against the State government policies in a fortnight. They have warned against the social boycott f Dalits in West Godawari district.

CPM state secretary P Madhu said that promises made to discriminated Dalit families must be fulfilled in two weeks otherwise a ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ protest would be organized.

He said that state minister Nakka Anand Babu promised to compensate Dalit families besides installing the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in Garagaparru village of Undi Mandal in the district.

He said that if government fails to live up to its promises, then a statewide agitation would be organized. He criticized the government for delaying in release of Rs 1 lakh to the victims.

In an untoward incident recently, Dr Ambdekar’s statue was desecrated by unknown people. When Dalits protested against the event, they were socially boycotted.

The turn of events was severely criticized by social activists and government had to intervene in the matter.
